How to Add an Address Validator App to Shopify

Adding an address validator app reduces shipping errors by prompting customers to correct their addresses before checkout. It helps stores operate more efficiently while avoiding unnecessary refunds, reships, and customer complaints.  

Follow the steps below to install an address validator app:

Install an Address Validator App

1. Log into your Shopify admin account

2. Click "Settings" at the bottom left corner

3. Click "Apps"

3. Click "Shopify App Store"

 4. Search "Address Validator" in the search bar. From there, you can review and select the address validator you would like to use.

• Consider using AddressGuard as this app does not require Shopify Plus and has the ability to prevent PO box addresses and institute character limits. This also checks against USPS's deliverable address database.

5. Click "Install" then click "Install" again

Configure the Address Validator App

1. Follow the app's onboarding steps. It may include: 

• Choosing a plan

• Enabling address validation

• Choosing validation rules (missing fields, invalid zip codes, etc.)

2. Depending on the app, configure options such as:

• Real-time validation during checkout

• Address autocomplete

• Error handling (block checkout vs. show warning)

• PO Box restrictions

• Character limits 

Enable Checkout Integration

1. Go back to "Settings" in your Shopify admin

2. Click "Checkout"

3. If required by the app:

• Enable checkout extensibility or app blocks

• Confirm the app is allowed to modify checkout behavior

 4. Some apps automatically inject validation, others require toggling a setting

Test the Address Validator

1. Open an incognito/private browser 

2. Add a product to the cart

3. Go to checkout and test:

• Invalid address

• Incomplete address

• Valid address

4. Confirm the app works and adjust as needed.
